LMGT1 DNA. Built for the modern Godzilla.
When Nissan launched the R35 GT-R, it marked a clean break from the Skyline era.
Compared to the R32, R33, and R34, the R35 was more digital, more powerful, and far more complex.
But one thing didn’t make the jump forward: a true heritage-style wheel option.
There was no modern LMGT1 equivalent. No wheel that connected the R35 to its Skyline roots.
That’s where we stepped in.
We set out to build what we believe is the world’s first R35 GT-R Restmod, an LMGT1-inspired design engineered specifically for the R35 platform.
Not just made bigger - But fully re-engineered a 20-inch wheel that looks period-correct and actually works with the R35’s geometry, weight, and massive brakes.
LMGT1, Reimagined for the R35 GT-R
The idea was easy to explain, but hard to execute:
What if Nissan had offered an LMGT1-style wheel as an OEM option when the R35 GT-R launched?
To answer that, we had to respect the original design while completely rethinking what sits underneath it.
That meant:
- Staying as close as possible to the original LMGT1 face
- Preserving the flat, low-concave profile that defines the design
- Re-engineering the structure for a much heavier and more demanding car
Every wheel is fully forged from 6061-T6 aluminum and available in 2-piece or 3-piece construction, depending on fitment and use case.
OEM R35 Wheel Specs (reference)
OEM R35 GT-R wheels vary slightly by model, but typically measure:
- Front: 20×9.5J ET45
- Rear: 20×10.5J ET45
These specs work—but they leave a lot on the table visually and mechanically.
Icons Reimagined LMGT1-Inspired R35 Fitment Options
Our standard R35 GT-R Restmod fitment is more aggressive, but still functional and well-balanced:
- Front: 20×10 ET3
- Rear: 20×12 ET20
And if you want to push things further, we can:
- Build square setups like 20×11.5 front and rear
- Create custom specs for widebody or Varis-style kits
- Dial in offsets and lips for your exact suspension and bodywork
Why You Can’t Just “Stretch” an 18" LMGT1 to 20"
On paper, scaling an 18-inch wheel to 20 inches sounds simple.
In reality, it ruins both the design and the engineering.
We didn’t want a cartoon version of an LMGT1. We wanted a wheel that looks like it belongs on a 90s GT-R poster and a modern R35.
So instead of scaling the original:
- We redrew the face from scratch in CAD
- We kept the flat character instead of chasing deep concavity, as most of the wheels nowadays go for
- We engineered the structure to handle R35 loads, tires, and brakes
The result is a wheel that meets modern standards while visually sitting right between OEM+ and motorsport.
- The Real Challenge: Front Brakes, ET30, and Proper Fitment
Most people think the main issue is brake clearance inside a 20-inch barrel.
On the R35 GT-R, that’s only part of the story.
The real challenges are:
- Caliper offset (how far the caliper sits outward)
- Running an aggressive ET30 while keeping the wheel tucked inside the fender
With a flat or low-concave face, you can’t cheat. You can’t just push the face outward or distort the design.
We had to solve everything in three dimensions:
- Face geometry
- Pad thickness and mounting shape
-
Barrel and lip design
That’s why the front wheel uses a 1.5-inch lip combined with an 8.5-inch inner barrel.
This setup allows us to:
- Keep the original LMGT1-style flat face
- Clear the massive R35 front brakes
- Maintain correct ET30 fitment without poke
No fake concavity. No visual shortcuts. Just proper engineering.
Custom Lip Profiles – Old-School Style, Modern Sizes
One area we’re especially proud of is our custom lip development.
We believe Icons Reimagined is the first brand to take a true 90s stepped lip design and correctly translate it into 19-inch and 20-inch wheels.
Instead of modern generic lips, we recreated a period-correct profile and scaled it properly for larger diameters.
For the R35 GT-R Restmod setup:
- Front: 1.5-inch lip for brake clearance and OEM+ balance
- Rear: More aggressive lip options based on fitment and tires
Across our range, lip sizes can be specified from 1.5" to 3.5", especially for widebody or custom-arched builds.
2-Piece, 3-Piece, and Fully Custom Builds
No two GT-Rs are built the same. That’s why flexibility matters.
We offer:
- 2-piece or 3-piece construction
- Standard R35 fitment: 20×10 ET30 / 20×12 ET20
- Square 20×11.5 setups for track use
-
Fully custom offsets and lips for:
- Varis, Top Secret, Liberty Walk
- Metal widebody conversions
- Time attack builds
If you want the wheel to sit millimetre-perfect, we build it around your measurements.
The Wheel the R35 GT-R Should Have Had
The R35 may not wear the Skyline badge, but it still carries GT-R DNA.
This R35 GT-R Restmod wheel connects:
- R32 / R33 / R34 heritage
- The LMGT1 legacy
- The raw, digital aggression of the R35
It’s not a replica.
It’s a what-if made real:
What if the R35 had launched with a proper heritage wheel—fully forged, OEM+ in spirit, and motorsport at heart?
Now it has.
