If you know, you know. The R32 Skyline GT-R isn’t just a car — it’s a calling. And for @goob.y, that call came early. This 1990 R32 GT-R is his third one, and easily the most personal.
“My dream car since junior high,” he tells us, tracing the obsession back to a high school friend who owned one. He’s been through two before — both snagged for $10K CAD in the early 2010s — but sold them off thinking they’d always be attainable.
Then came the U.S. import boom, and prices took off. Fast forward to 2019: he scores this one from its second owner, who’d let it sit untouched for a decade, hornets’ nest and all. No rust though — the dream was still alive.
Why the R32?
“It’s understated,” he says. Wider fenders, OEM+ aggression, and a mature menace that only the R32 carries. While he’s flirted with S-chassis cars (S13s, S14s, even an S15), he admits he can never keep both platforms around — he goes deep with his builds, and only one can get the full treatment.
Inspiration: Clubman Race Spec Vibes
The blueprint? Omori Factory’s Clubman Race Spec builds. Think R35 Gunmetal Grey (KAD), LMGT4s, R35 brakes, OEM aero — pure OEM+. And while most of the body kit is true to factory form, there are tasteful deviations: a JUN front lip, Ganador mirrors, a Fujimura hood lip custom-fit to the original bonnet, and a carbon-kevlar trunk lip that nods to Nismo heritage.
Why Icons Reimagined Wheels?
“LMGT1s are grail wheels. But let’s be real — 25K USD for a set? That’s a Youtuber’s flex. Icons Reimagined let me spec exactly what I wanted, with the quality and soul of the original, without selling a kidney.”
The Build Sheet (Holy F*ck, brace yourself)
Under the hood? A full list too long to fit here — but highlights include rebuilt R32 turbos with steel guts, Apexi Power FC, Nismo injectors, Koyo radiator, Tomei fuel setup, and soon, a Haltech Elite 2500 system paired with a Hypertune ITB manifold.
JRZ RS Pro 2-ways, Ikeya Formula arms, SPL links, and R35 GTR Brembos are suspended. Interior? Recaro ASM Ruby seats, Willans harnesses, a Nismo GT500 knob, 320 km/h cluster, and even HKS 50th anniversary mats. Oh, and a full Safety21 cage.
Wheels? He swaps between LMGT4s in gloss black on Advan AD09s and our Icons Reimagined White LMGT1s both, 18x10.5 +15 on Bridgestone RE-71RS.
Rare Bits & Pain Points
Rare parts? The old-logo Nismo strut bars with integrated brake master stopper might be the ones only real heads will catch. As for pain? Nothing major — a dead fuel pump on the dyno, a faulty FPR, some leaks. “Pretty normal for a crusty old car,” he laughs.
Life With the Car
Originally planned for track use, a noise violation and rising values quickly shelved that idea. Now it lives mostly in the garage — too stiff, too loud, and no A/C. His daily is a GLE63s, which makes it even harder to choose the Skyline. Still, when it does come out, it’s an event.
What’s Next?
ECU, dash, and manifold upgrades are locked in. Post-wedding, if the stars (and his wife) align, he’s eyeing a single turbo swap and maybe even an HKS 2.8L V-cam setup. “Until then, baby steps.”
Shoutouts
Massive thanks to @j_tong, @ch0wfun, @pdotpatel, @thaipac, @apexapexapex, @cw_unit, @coltonoc, @vkvartler, and the team at @boost.factory for the endless help, parts sourcing, and tuning.
And of course — to his fiancée @jlaaamx: “For putting up with me the last 10–11 years, helping in the garage, and not killing me over car parts.”
